Richard Jay Pitch, MD is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He graduated with honors from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT in 1985 and State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn (Downstate Medical Center) in 1991. He completed his psychiatry residency at Hillside Hospital-Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Resident in 1995. He was awarded Exemplary Psychiatrist by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. He was also certified, with distinction, as a Master Psychopharmacologist by the Neuroscience Education Institute in 2009. He completed the mini-Fellowship in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation from Harvard Medical School, in 2010, at the Berenson-Allen Brain Stimulation Center at Beth Israel-Deaconess Center in Boston.

After residency, Dr. Pitch remained on the faculty at Hillside Hospital where he supervised residents and was the medical director for the Partial Hospital Program. He was also a research psychiatrist participating in the First Episode of Schizophrenia studies under the leadership of John Kane, MD. Dr. Pitch published several articles and book chapters on panic disorder in schizophrenia. He also co-authored two books on Medical Ethics and Death and Dying. He has lectured in the community on depression, panic disorder, addiction, personality disorders and neuromodulation techniques for major depression, and transcranial magnetic stimulation.

In addition to work at psychiatric hospitals, nursing homes and partial hospital programs, Dr. Pitch has maintained an outpatient private practice since 1995. He now works exclusively at his private outpatient practices in Medford and Melville, NY. There, his treatment approach is integrative. He provides psychotherapy, medication management, TMS Therapy and neurofeedback. He is often consulted on complex cases and for individuals who have had past difficulties with medications. The scope of his practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, addictions, attention deficit disorder and grief and relationship problems.

Dr. Pitch has been providing TMS Therapy since 2010 for patients with major depressive disorder that had not been able to find relief from medications and psychotherapy. In 2013 he joined the newly formed Clinical TMS Society and helped to grow that organization into the large international society that it is today. He is a member of the Board of Directors, and chair of the annual scientific meeting. He is on the faculty PULSES, the TMS Society’s introductory training course for TMS practitioners which has been presented in San Diego, Brooklyn and London, and will continue to be presented several times a year nationally and internationally.
